We have been quarrying slate here in the hills of Snowdonia since 1836 and have been making products to sell at our site in Blaenau Ffestiniog since 1972. Welsh Slate is about 500 million years old and is rightly renowned as a smoother, longer lasting stone than any of the other forms of slate that are now imported into Britain. Our guarantee to you is that our slate comes from our own quarry and that the products are made and finished here in North Wales. Llechwedd Welsh Slate is known as blue/grey, is dark in colour and when oiled has a beautiful sheen. Please be aware that it is a natural product with variations of colour and texture which often has markings: these can be iron pyrites – which give a gold colour – or even fossils embedded in the rock. Also measurements are not precise to the millimetre as this is a natural product split by hand from rock cut from the mountain.
